Sent to serve…

Late last year a dear friend of mine shared my name with Bold Journey, an inspirational magazine whose mission is to “create a space for all of us to learn from each other.” I was humbled when they asked me to share the story of my business and the dream it was created from.

This year I’m learning that life isn’t easy, but with as a collective, we can support each other, and serve. I’m learning through my Catholic faith and almost 40 years of life, that life is most certainly NOT easy. But it’s beautiful, and it truly is a journey. Jesus calls us to be bold, and to live a bold journey as he did.

I pray that The Hive and my business can help others to live out their own bold journey as well.

I encourage you to check out @boldjourneymag

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Arabie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with those who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
This is a great question! I find my purpose in serving others; and I am able to get through even my hardest days knowing that I am working to fulfill a specific purpose; to help someone accomplish a portion of their business goals. By helping them accomplish this, they can accomplish other goals in their lives and business!

When things get really hard and I start to ask myself “what am I doing this for?” I remember, it’s for my clients and their dreams.  We’re all here on this planet to help each other.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The Hive was created out of pure need! My husband and I own an equipment business and he really needed help with his marketing. I have an undergraduate marketing BS, and an MBA in Marketing. I was always drawn to marketing because it was so exciting that you could take an idea or something from your imagination and bring it to life! You’re also telling a story with marketing which is very exciting for me!

As I was doing social media and digital marketing for our equipment business, people started to take notice and ask him who was doing his marketing! ( It was me, his wife). It just sort of took on a life of its own after that!

I realized there were so many business owners like us who felt lost, hopeless, confused, and overwhelmed on where to start with social media and digital marketing.

They’re already wearing so many hats in their business and deserve to have their brands and businesses story told!

I get a thrill when I see my clients get excited about their content, and when they tell me they’re so relieved that they have someone to help them with their business growth through marketing.

The Hive is a place where we all work together (like busy bees) to make honey for our businesses and lives! I call my girls my Hive Honey’s!

This year I’m so excited to grow my team and bring on new talent so that together we can serve even more people and help their businesses and brands grow and bloom!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the most impactful things that happened to me were that from an early age, I worked in my parent’s pharmacy and gift shop. I learned that people don’t buy because of what that thing does ( I.E. the features etc) , they buy because of how that thing makes them feel. I learned throughout school that writing, communication, and social skills would get me further than perfect grades. I also had experience in the music industry where I learned that when you speak to everyone, you speak to no-one. You have to concentrate on your current audience, nurture them, and focus on repeat sales. In my time in construction sales, I learned that a person’s favorite topic is themselves, and that engagement with them in mind was key to getting the sale.

If I could give anyone advice, I would tell someone to take your experiences and see where life takes you. Don’t try to force things and take everything as a learning experience. There are no failures… just an opportunity to learn.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I definitely think that it’s better to go all in on your strengths, and surround yourself with those whose strengths are your weaknesses. That makes you an unstoppable team.

That’s what The Hive is all about. We are all working together towards a common goal, and all of us get there through our own strengths, and they’re not all the same (thank goodness because how boring would that be?!)
